Congratulations to the West Bend-Mallard school system in Iowa, and to the superintendent–our cousin, Amanda Schmidt–on achieving the highest ratings of any school system in Palo Alto County, Iowa. West Bend-Mallard received a “Commendable” rating from the Iowa Department of Education, and ranked higher than other nearby schools in proficiency, attendance, growth, and college and career readiness. WBM also received high marks in staff retention and parental involvement. Amanda has served as the superintendent since 2013, and previously served for seven years as principal.
