Yesterday we began filming on our Schmidt family history documentary. Our 89-year-old cousin Rosabelle Johnson of Emmetsburg, Iowa shared her memories of her grandparents Karl Schmidt (1864-1933) and Maggie (Lindemann) Schmidt (1864-1943), who were the first of the West Bend (Iowa) Schmidts to immigrate to America in the 1880s. Thank you to Rosie for answering our many questions, and thanks to Rosie’s children Janet and Jerry for helping to make this happen! If you have an older relative who would like to be interviewed about their memories of the earliest Schmidt generations, please contact us right away.
Thank you also to The Shores at Five Island for donating the usage of their conference room for the day.
Rosabelle is the daughter of Charles Schmidt, granddaughter of Karl Schmidt, great granddaughter of Dietrich Schmidt Jr., 2xgreat granddaughter of Dietrich Schmidt Sr., 3xgreat granddaughter of Friedrich Schmidt, 4xgreat granddaughter of Johannes Schmidt Jr., 5xgreat granddaughter of Johannes Schmidt Sr., 6xgreat granddaughter of Hans Heinrich Schmidt, and 7xgreat granddaughter of Hans Schmidt.
